In this post, you can see 8 Google Drive limits on sharing, including limits in sharing members, file size, access permissions, and storage limits. Learn more by reading the following post!
Google Drive has specific limits on sharing to ensure fair usage and prevent abuse. Here are the key Google Drive limits on sharing:
► Individual Files: You can share individual files with up to 100 users or groups directly. However, if you share a file via a link, there is no limit to the number of people who can access it (as long as the link is accessible).
► Folders: Folders sharing via a link allow unlimited access.
► Concurrent Users: A file can be accessed by up to 100 concurrent users at the same time. If more users try to access the file, they may receive a "temporarily unavailable" message.
► Daily Download: If a file is downloaded too many times within a short period, Google may temporarily block further downloads with an error: "Sorry, you can’t view or download this file at this time."
Daily Download Limit: 10 TB of data per day for individual users and 100, 000 times per day for shared files.
Even if a file is shared with many people, only the owner's storage is counted. While not directly a sharing limit, keep in mind that Google Drive storage is shared across Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive. If you exceed your storage limit, you won’t be able to share new files until you free up space.
► Google Workspace Domain Sharing: If your account is part of a Google Workspace, admins can set limits on external sharing.
► Google Groups Sharing: A file or folder can be shared with a Google Group, and all members will have access.
Google may restrict sharing of files that violate its policies (e.g., copyrighted material, malware, or abusive content).
If you are using multiple cloud storage services, such as Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud Drive, or pCloud, you may sometimes want to sync files between Google Drive with these clouds. However, downloading and uploading files for syncing is troublesome and cannot update files instantly. Due to this consideration, you can use MultCloud Cloud Sync to sync files in real-time.
MultCloud is a web-based cloud file transfer service that supports 30+ main cloud storage services, including Google Drive, Google “Shared with me”, Google Workspace, and Google Shared Drive. You can use Cloud Sync to automatically sync files between the above Google clouds with any clouds you like. In Cloud Sync, you can choose different sync modes, such as Real Time Sync, Two -way Sync, Incremental Sync, Cumulative Sync, Mirror Sync, Move Sync, Update Sync, and Full Backup Sync.
The Cloud Sync process is automatic, and the task is easy to create. You can see an example of syncing Google Drive with OneDrive.
Step 1. Enter the MultCloud website and create an account for free.
Step 2. Click “Add Cloud” and the Google Drive logo to add it to MultCloud. Also, repeat this step to add OneDrive to MultCloud.
Step 3. Select the “Cloud Sync” function in the left sidebar and choose Google Drive as the source and OneDrive as the target. Then, switch the button to “Real Time Sync” and tap “Sync Now” to start this task.
Note: There is a “Filter” tool you can use to batch-select the files you want to sync or ignore with their file extensions in “Options”.
There are 8 main Google Drive Sharing limits showed in this post. You can look through them and practice Google Drive sharing more comfortably. Moreover, if you want to share Google Drive with other clouds, try MultCloud to proceed an automatic task without any downloading and uploading.
Google Drive limits Viewers to viewing and downloading files but restricts editing or sharing. A file can be shared with up to 100 users directly. Public links may face daily bandwidth limits, potentially causing access restrictions if exceeded. Excessive downloads can trigger temporary suspensions, typically lasting 24 hours.
To change sharing permissions on Google Drive, right-click a file or folder, select "Share," then enter an email or copy a link. Click the dropdown next to a user’s name to switch between Viewer, Commenter, or Editor. Adjust link settings for public or restricted access. Click "Done" to save changes.
To increase Google Drive’s sharing limit, use shared drives (Google Workspace), reduce direct shares by using link sharing, or create multiple copies of files. If facing daily limits, wait 24 hours. Upgrading to Google Workspace may provide higher limits. Consider third-party cloud storage solutions for large-scale sharing needs.
